The Vineyard

The vineyard stretches from the Alban Syrah block on the saddle of the land to the Grenache and Petite Syrah at the creekside Roadblock that cozies up to winding Ballard Canyon.

Excellent quality Rhone varietals were being grown in Ballard Canyon vineyards around them and it was also whispered that soon the area would have an AVA (a unique viticultural appellation). It turned out the land they had chosen, primarily for its view, offered them a special gift – an excellent terroir, a wide variety of soil types, sufficient water and an ideal climate for growing top quality fruit.

The couple consulted with the most knowledgeable and talented vineyard managers in Santa Barbara County who advised them what to plant and how to nurture a property that could one day produce first-class grapes. That was their goal.

After years of experimenting, Andrew and Claudia set about to create special hand-crafted wines from the varied terrain of RBV’s sloping hillsides. Rancho Boa Vista has built a reputation for excellent quality Syrah and Petíte Syrah. Most prized is its signature blend Syrahvá – a finely textured, delightful mix of Syrah and Petite Syrah. Its name comes from the Brazilian (Claudia is half Brazilian) word “saravá” which means ecstasy or hallelujah! RBV’s Grenache and Grenache Blanc are also prized by numerous Central Coast winemakers, and its inviting and tasty Claudia’s Rosé is fast becoming a favorite for all those who sip it.
